These are the first names of the main FF8 characters spelled out in katakana. They will be written from top to bottom in a dj rather than from right to left as pictured here, but this way was a lot easier to fit into a table!

Fun facts about FF names:

Laguna is supposedly named for Laguna Beach, CA. On a map, you can see that Laguna Beach is not far from U. of CA at Irvine. Coincidence? Probably not.

The word squall has some specific mariners' definitions that work well for our hero:

Squall - a sudden, violent gust of wind

Black squall - dark and threatening; usually accompanied by rain

White squall - A squall announced only by whitecaps on the sea, a whitish haze in the air, and a rushing sound.
