Where to buy doujinshi

It's been quite some time since I've bought any doujinshi, so most of the links that used to be here are sadly obsolete. Hopefully I can direct some of you in the right direction nonetheless!

Online Doujinshi Shops

Jpngoodskoba

One of the best sellers out there, both through the site and on eBay. He ships lightning-fast, and the prices are fair. Updates are sporadic. Highly recommended - I've done a lot of business with Kazu.

Fisheye's Mall: Magical Worlds of Anime

Books listed by Rusty are a common sight on eBay, but he also sells direct. Shipping is looooooong - I've had books take up to four weeks to arrive - but it's inexpensive.

Happy Otaku

Still around, and I still haven't ordered from this guy, though he's gotten good reviews from others.

Mandarake

This Japanese bookstore occasionally sells anthologies.

JPQueen

Often seen on eBay. Many doujinshi and anime items.

Twinbells

Good selection of doujinshi from various series.

Purple Plum

Small selection of doujinshi and other anime items.

Trigun doujinshi from Sumire

The Sumire of Make a Little Lightbulb in Your Soul occasionally lists doujinshi for sale. She's on the pricier side, but she tends to come up with rare books. Rumor has it she has moved back to the States, so I don't know whether she is still updating.

Kinokuniya

If you're fortunate enough to live near a Kinokuniya, they do sell anthologies here and there, nestled in with the manga.

eBay and Related Sites

eBay

Best selection of doujinshi, and also the most frustrating. Sometimes you get a good deal, other times you see books go for prices that make your head spin. (No lie, I've seen Trigun books go for $250.)

Recommended sellers:

  • ishiiishiishi (has various permutations of his username)
  • edwingoh
  • jpngoodskoba

Rinkya

Rinkya is one of several proxy bidding sites for Yahoo!Japan. Many Japanese sellers won't ship out of the country, so places like Rinkya bid for you and then ship to you once you win. Recommended for the diehard.

Celga

Celga and its sister site Doujin Box are another Yahoo!Japan proxy bidding site. These two sites link searches of interest directly instead of requiring the user to search. The people I've known who've used it have been satisfied, but again, this is probably not the best choice for the casual doujinshi collector.

Hope that helps you guys with your searching!
